The NCPA/HPO Annual Report for 2022 has now been published. This is the 10th consecutive year for which these Annual Reports are available and all can be accessed online at hse.ie/anaesthesia (Programme Documents & Resources). Hard copy of the Reports can also be obtained from Ms Una Quill, Programme Manager, National Clinical Programme for Anaesthesia c/o 22 Merrion Square North, Dublin 4 – email ncpa@coa.ie

The NCPA/HPO Annual Report 2022 gives the total number of General Anaesthetics, Neuraxial Blocks and Regional Blocks carried out in public hospitals in the Republic of Ireland in 2022 along with details of the patient’s age, gender and ASA status, the procedures for which the anaesthetics were administered and the urgency of these procedures. The report also contains information on organ donation for transplant following a diagnosis of brain stem death and there is an Occasional Data section describing the type and frequency of Regional Blocks administered in Irish public hospitals over the past 10 years. 

To date, these Annual reports do not contain any details of procedures carried out for the management of chronic pain but the possibility of doing so in future Annual Reports is currently under consideration.
