The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland (CAI) has established the Professional Competence Scheme (PCS), in Anaesthesiology, under the auspices of the Medical Council of Ireland, to facilitate enrolled registrants to fulfil the requirements of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007.
The Medical Council requirements run over the course of a Professional Competence Year, which begins on 1st May and ends on the 30th April in the following year.
Over the course of the 2023/2024 Professional Competence year you will need to:
- Complete one Clinical (Practice) Audit or Quality Improvement Project
- Gather and record a minimum of 20 continuing professional Development (CPD) credits across for CPD categories:
- External (maintenance of knowledge and skills
- Internal (practice evaluation and development)
- Personal Learning
- Research or Teaching
All these activities must have been completed between 1st May 2023 and 30th April 2024.
