Practice Review, Work-Based Learning and Clinical Audit Resources

The College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland has developed a suite of guidance documents and verification forms to support doctors participating in the Professional Competence Scheme (PCS) in meeting the requirements for Practice Review, Work-Based Learning and Clinical Audit activities.

These resources provide guidance on eligible activities, documentation and evidence requirements, reflective practice, verification processes, and clinical audit standards. They are designed to support professional development, quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance, while ensuring alignment with the Medical Council’s Maintenance of Professional Competence Framework.

The resource pack includes:

  • Practice Review and Work-Based Learning Guidance: Guidance on eligible activities, evidence requirements, reflection, Medical Council domain mapping, verification requirements and the Annual Verification Process (AVP).
  • Practice Review and Work-Based Learning Verification Forms – standardised forms to support the recording, verification and submission of Practice Review and Work-Based Learning activities.
  • PCS Clinical Audit Standards Guidance – guidance on the standards required for clinical audit activities submitted for Practice Review credit, including governance, methodology, quality improvement, verification and evidence requirements.
  • PCS Clinical Audit Submission and Verification Form – a structured form to support the documentation, submission and verification of clinical audit activities in accordance with College requirements.

Members are encouraged to review the relevant guidance documents before undertaking or submitting activities for PCS credit and to retain appropriate supporting documentation throughout the PCS cycle to facilitate verification and audit processes.
