NCHD Support Scheme (CPD-SS) – Applications Opening Monday 13th July 2026
Applications for the NCHD Support Scheme (CPD-SS) will open on Monday, 13th July 2026.
The Continuous Professional Development–Support Scheme (CPD-SS) is specifically designed for Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) who are not enrolled on a recognised postgraduate training programme. The scheme aims to support participants in enhancing their clinical knowledge and skills while helping to meet the requirements of the Medical Council’s Professional Competence Scheme (PCS). Enrolment is free of charge.
Doctors enrolled in the CPD-SS are entitled to attend College-organised and approved training events and activities at no cost. These events are tailored to meet the educational needs of NCHDs and support ongoing professional development.
CPD-SS versus PCS
All doctors on the Supervised, General, or Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register are legally required to be enrolled in a Professional Competence Scheme (PCS), which includes a requirement to obtain a minimum of 20 external CPD credits per year.
While enrolment in the CPD-SS is not a legal requirement, it is designed to support doctors in achieving these external credit requirements.
Why Register for CPD-SS?
- The HSE provides an allocation of 20 CPD credits for each registered doctor.
- These credits can be used to attend a range of college events free of charge.
- Events are specifically designed to meet the educational and training needs of NCHDs.
- The scheme supports compliance with PCS requirements while minimising associated costs.
