The Annual Congress of Anaesthesiology 2020

We are aware that Anaesthesiologists and Intensive Care specialists will be at the forefront of the response to those most impacted by the COVID-19 virus.

The risks of spreading the infection amongst a large number of delegates at our annual scientific meeting and the subsequent lengthy quarantine period creates an unacceptable risk to the health system. Our intensive care units and hospital networks require our fellows and trainees to stay in hospitals to help manage the outbreak and care for our communities.

We have therefore taken the decision to cancel the CAI Congress 2020 which was due to take place in Dublin on May 21st -22nd  2020.

We believe the action is in the best interest of all who might have attended and the wider community.

We realise that the Congress plays a central part in the professional lives of our community. We will ensure that we provide additional educational and professional supports to our trainees, Fellows, affiliates and the wider community while social restrictions are in place.

We are very grateful to all those who contributed to Congress preparation, in particular those who had agreed to travel as part of our Visiting Faculty. We apologise for the disruption this cancellation will inevitably cause. Although we’re facing a period of uncertainty now, we’re determined to maintain a vibrant and worthwhile educational offering despite these difficult circumstances.

As your College, we were very much looking forward to seeing you in May and it is with sincere regret that we forego that. We wish you and your family well during these trying times.

Regrettably, we decided to cancel this competition. All abstracts that have been submitted until now won’t be taken into consideration.

This competition has not been cancelled due to the COVID19 outbreak.

We decided that 6 trainees with best abstracts will be invited for an online presentation via ZOOM. Selected candidates will be given all necessary information for the online presentations prior; it is very likely it will be scheduled for late May (date TBC). Three judges will be involved in assessing all abstracts. A winner will be announced online after this date.

NEW Deadline for all applications is Friday 24th April 2020.

This competition has not been cancelled due to the COVID19 oubreak, and it will continue go ahead as planned, just virtually.

We have decided to extend the deadline for this Competition to Monday 27th April by 5pm.

The CAT Fun Run took place on 10 May 2019 on the beautiful Clontarf seafront. This year’s run was held in memory of Dr Mark Owens and Dr James Close, two trainees who passed away in the last year.

The Mark Owens Trophy is awarded to the overall winner of the fun run, this year being awarded to Dr Pierce Geoghegan who crossed the line with an impressive time of 17:07.

The James Close Trophy is awarded to the best dressed participant in the fun run. The trophy this year was awarded to Dr Emer Ryan.

Congratulations to all participants and our deserving winners.

As with previous years the run was in aid of a worthy charitable cause. The chosen charity this year is the Practitioner Health Matters Programme. The programme supports doctors at times of significant stress both personal and professional . If you would like to support the Programme the donation link for the run remains active at:
