Inaugural CAT Career Progression Evening
Monday 29th April, 6.00pm
College of Anaesthesiologist of Ireland, 22 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
We know from our recent National Trainee Survey on training and wellbeing as an Anaesthesiologist in Ireland that career progression concerns are a significant source of stress for many trainees, 61% to be exact!
To address this we have put together a panel of speakers on Monday April 29th from 18:00 to give us all a clearer insight into what to expect in the transition from SpR to consultancy.
- We will welcome Dr Jeremy Smith, a Consultant Anaesthesiologist in Sligo and Clinical Lead for the National Clinical Programme for Anaesthesiology, to speak about the future model of care for Anaesthesiology in Ireland, the future direction of the specialty and the expected skill-mix that will be required (i.e. ICU/obstetrics etc).
- Ms Sinéad McCallion from the National Doctors Training and Planning organisation will speak about the consultant appointment process (post approval, consultant appointments advisory committee).
- Prof Gerry Fitzpatrick, Consultant Anaesthesiologist at Tallaght University Hospital and Vice-President of the CAI will give us an insight into the application and interview the interviewer’s perspective across the table!
- Finally we have a SAT alumna who is a newly appointed Consultant, Dr Ruth Aoibhinn O’Leary to briefly share her experience and some tips learned from the process.
This will be a broad discussion, and is open to absolutely everyone from SAT 1 – SAT 6, Post-CSCST Anaesthesiologists and non-training registrars.
We also hope to have a live stream of the event so that those outside of Dublin can virtually attend. Please RSVP with a ‘stream online’ ticket with your name and location if you intend to do so.
