SpR Training

Entry to the National SpR Training Programme is by competitive interview, and CCBST confers eligibility to take up an SpR post. The SpR scheme is organised on a national basis and trainees rotate to different hospitals around the country. The next five years (three intermediate, two advanced) are spent at this grade gaining clinical experience, rotating through sub-specialties in Anaesthesia and getting exposure to administration, management, academic activities and research. There is provision to take a year out of clinical anaesthesia for either full time research, working abroad or working in another specialty. Progress to the fourth SpR year is determined at interview with officers of the Training Committee and requires the Final FCARCSI or equivalent, among other things.
