BST Training

The initial two years are spent in Basic Specialist Training (BST) organised by Regional Training Schemes in the Eastern, Southern, and Western areas and recruited centrally. Several months after commencing training, trainees must pass an Initial Test of Competence to progress further. A Certificate of Completion of Basic Specialist Training (CCBST) is awarded on completion of BST. Award of this certificate is dependant on passing the Initial Test of Competence, passing the Primary FCARCSI or equivalent, completing a series of workplace competence assessments, and completing two years in approved BST posts with satisfactory six-monthly In-Training Assessments.
